has anyone ever heard of KLF audio or Carver amps?

My friend just got two amps. They are all white and very plain looking. On the top right side it says CARVER and then has a klf audio logo next to it. I was wondering what kind of amp this is and how much power its putting out. The model number is 2200 and 4200. Anyone with info on this company please post!

I've heard of Carver, but the only ones I've seen were for the house. But if its any consolation, they were very high end components. Higher than Harmon Kardon or anything like that. If I remember correctly, just the amp/receiver was around $600.

Carver makes some REALLY, REALLY nice home audio equipment. They were (I believe) orginally an amplifier manufacturer and expanded into other home audio equipment (tuners, receivers, speakers, ect.) and into car audio. There is a Carver amp (25w (I think) mono tube amp) that costs in excess of $30,000. They, of course, have cheaper stuff. If I had the money, I'd have Carver amps in my home theatre system.

I not sure if the quality of Carver was carried over to their car audio amplifiers or what. I assume that KLF (which I thought only made home audio stuff) hired Carver to design an amplifier for them. I've never seen, or heard, or read a full review of a Carver car audio amp.

I made a quick attempt to find some info. on Carver car audio and found very little. Where'd your buddy get these and how much did they cost?

They make mainly high end dj equipment. They have a home amp that was 1000 watts rmsx2 that used dual power source. They also make alot of tube amps I belive they are for musical instrument however i have never seen a $30,000 tube amp from them. They are made by phenix gold.

FYI - I tried (quickly) to find out more info on Carver's ultra-expensive amp and only came up with this ...

Bob Carver started a company named Phase Linear (late '70s?). He then left it (early '80s?) and started Carver Corporation. He then left Carver in 1994 and started another company called Sunfire. By 1998 Carver Corp. was basically dead. In May 1999 the company went bankrupt. Since then Bob Carver bought it back.

During his time with Carver Corp., he released an amp called the Silver Seven. It was a mono-block tube amplifier and was (I believe) 500w x1. You needed two of these for stereo. They haven't been produced for a number of years. I did find one place that claims they sold one for $25,000. I remember them being even more expensive (brand new) in the late '80s.

Anyway ...

The less expensive Carver home amps of the '80s & early '90s were really sweet (in my opinion) and I've always wanted one since I was old enough to know what an amplifier was.

Are the newer Carver car audio amps any good? I don't know. I just know that the name has been very well respected in the past.

There is a web site http://www.carvercorp.com/ but there is basically nothing there yet.

Carver amps are the SHIZZNITT!!!!

I've got an m1.5t and believe me when I say it can put out power....350w rms/700w peak PER CHANNEL.

It would definetly be worth checking into if they started making car audio stuff
