How did yall mount your DIN recievers in your dash? I can't afford a DIN 1/2 , but I also don't want the reciever to stick out. Post a picture if you can.

Just buy a GM installation kit for your dash. The new unit will probably not be flush with the trim, but it will still look good IMO

Machined out a bit of aluminium for the radio cage, attached the cage to the factory plastic bit, fitted some spacers to support the bottom, slid the sucker in till it snapped in place... on one side, doh! modded the heater duct and then it fit just right

Very nice installation ...
Has anyone done an installation w/ a Kameleon or another model where the display goes completely black when turned off?

Metra makes an installation installation kit that is adjustable (vs. fixed) in the amount that the HU sticks out. With this kit you can be sure that the HU will stick out no more than absolutely necessary. I can almost get mine flush with this kit without any major effort.

Metra make some of the very best installation kits on the market. I got mine at either Circuit City or Best Buy and am sure it was less than $25.
I got the generic General Motors kit (DW-4544) that has a whole bunch of pieces I didn't need. These pieces are the main important stuff:
The inner piece (which you will probably snap the shaft mount plates off) connects to the HU mounting bracket. The outer piece (which isn't shown with the mounting tabs) connects to the car using the factory bolts. The inner piece slides within the outer piece to adjust how far it sticks out or recessed in (good luck recessing in a third gen) and two bolts hold it in place.
BTW I got the photo from http://www.tune-town.com/ . Just do a search for "Metra installation kit" and you should find some online places that sell them.

Bad thing about the Metra and other adjustable mounts make it easy to rip out the HU for a thief. Just yank and cut the wires.
