Kenwood radio

I put a kenwood radio in my car with pioneer and kicker speakers, nothing too crazy. I've been running it and it's been doing great, but this morning when I started my car when the radio turned on the cigarette lighter sparked and the radio turned off... The radio is wired to the factory harness with all the correct adapters from crutchfield. Do I need a relay or something?

The harness adapters are made of poor quality wire, it’s possible the harness rubbed through etc.

a typical head unit is fused for 10 amps, shouldn’t require and additional hardware.

I prefer Metra harnesses over scosche.
