Can my alternator handle 90amps worth?
Can my alternator handle 90amps worth?
I currently have a profile cl300 amp, the fuse on that is 30 amps- I'm thinking about taking that and hooking it up to my speakers and putting int the JBL 600.1 with is rated at 60amps worth of fuses. I've called JBL and crutchfield and nobody can tell me how much current they would actually be pulling in normal use? is there any way to figure out if my alt. would be able to handle it? I have a 105amp alternator. If I get that JBL amp I also plan on using a 1farad cap for that amp. thanks
you will not pull the current indicated by the fuses under normal music.
Infact, most amps will only approach the fuse limits when bridged to the lowest impendance they can handle. So your mids and highs amp will not pull much current.
I had 2 Tube Drivers in my 91 bird. Fuses added up to 120. Had some light dimming issues at high volume, but a 1 farad cap cured that.

87, I have that amp- JBL 600.1- and the fuse rating is 60A. I drove around for a week with a 30 A fuse in there until I could get a 60A, and the lights dimmed at idle (without a cap), but I didn't blow the fuse, and there was lots of bass. That was with 2 kicker subs.
I agree with 88tajeff. I am running a 60 also but I ran my system which is 660 watts on it for a while and had no problems except dimming of the lights at high volume. All you need to do is keep your system down at night and you should be ok.
