Powered switch?

I have an MP3 player in my trunk that has a remote wire. I also have an FM modulator that I would like to use for it to play through. The remote wire does not provide enough power to run the FM modulator and so I need to run a switch to power it. What I would like is a relay type switch that would use the remote wire from the MP3 player as a logic signal and activate the switch for the power to the FM Modulator. Has anybody done anything like this? I would really hate to have to put in a manual throw switch.
Thanks!

make the remote wire from your head unit turn on a relay. then take the output from the relay and split it as many times as you want. the ignition or constant you hook up to the relay should be MORE than enough current to turn-on many amps/changers/etc

I'm not about to describe a relay (its waaaayyy too late) but that should be all you need

If i'm way off base on this somebody lemme know.

Cool, that sounds liek exactly what I need. What type of relay should I look for? Can I just pick one up at radio shack?
Thanks for the help...
