I'm sure you could put a small amp in there. But I plan to use it for when I get my CD changer.

I put a little Punch 120 in there, and it worked fine, but it got really hot. Just make sure the amp you wanna put in there can handle heat well.

I will be putting in a Punch 60. I was thinking of taking off the little door and maybe covering with carpet so more air could reach the amp. Hey CBPLDC, how did you mount the amp? Thanks

I put a Teac (Stop laughing, it pounded!) amp back there in a friend's car. Worked great except that his hatch leaked and for a while the amp was totally submerged in water. Oddly enough, it still works despite being totally rusted!

Banks,
I cut out the little carboard thingie and made a board that went from the top of the fender to the bottom and mounted the amp on that board and fastened the board with spray adhesive and velcro at the top and bottom, There are better ways to do this, but I wanted something stealthy yet not so permanent. The punch 60 is a good amp but they get really hot. I would mount a large fan to the inside of that locking lid, right behind the vents on the lid, and wire it to come on with your amp and pull the hot air out of there.

The reason I say to pull the hot air out instead of pushing the outside air in, is because the hatch will already be pretty stinkin' hot anyway.

I put my Alpine flex amp in there and mounted it to a piece of wood to keep it from moving.

I had a Pyramid (do I hear more laughter?) amp back there. I had no cardboard storage box under the side lid when I bought the car. I made a board to hold the amp. I bolted one side down to the ledge left over from the hatch. For the rearmost leftmost corner, I made an aluminum brace that went from the bottom of the corner of the board up to the top of the "frame rail". There was a hole already there for me to use.

Then water got in there, fried the amp, yadda yadda...

My Punch 60 used to run at 1 ohm and it never got hot. I should probably consider a fan also though. Where abouts can I find one for cheap?

a lilsomthin i noticed. loose panel + poor weatherstip = plenty of mositure/weater in that well. rust proof hole in bottom = water leaving peacefully.

I've never had water in there, but if it seems to be a problem, you can always seal around the panel.

Turned out the bulk of my water was coming from the seal between the hatch glass and the rear fill panel (which the spoiler sits on). The rubber had shrunk with age and was letting water get in there- but then again, I even had water in the bottom of my hatchback. I bought a tube of Black Silicone (not RTV) for weatherstripping, and laid a new bead down.
