they stole the radio and cut the wires

Some one broke into the car (89 TA) and stole the radio and cut the wires while they were at it. I am worried about the wires because they cut them. I do want to put a new radio in but I dont know what to do first. Can anyone tell what to do. I don't want to have to rewire the whole car because of those idiots.

No need to rewire the car. If you buy from Crutchfield, they will give you a wiring harness that will connect to your old one. Since your harness is gone splice or sodder the wires together. Its easy to hook up once you know what wires to connect. The dingus I bought my car from F***ed up all the wiring but I finally fixed it. I hope.

Same deal as you. some one stole the stereo out of the 82fbird before i owned it. They cut the wires so I was clueless. I looked at my 85 and it had a different setup with the wires. I ended up going to a junk yard and sniping a wire harness off car the same year. just do that should be plenty of doners and it doesent even have to be a fbody just about the same year GM.

Seems as if the person(s) that stole the radio out of mine were nice, they didn't cut a thing

I plan on doing a complete tech article for this soon...but for now I can say a little...

In my opinion, the easiest and most professional way to fix this is to go to a junkyard, find another GM car with the same radio harness. Cut the harness out of the junk car.

Inside your car, you simply have to match up the colors. Reattach that junkyard harness to your car, then go out and buy the proper adapter and hook up your aftermarket stuff.

The only catch is that a few wires back there are the same color...you'll need a little bit of equipment and testing skills to figure out which is which.

Lets see how this chart comes out... you guys will see this on my website - whenever I finish it!

[edit] Okay, that came out -bad-, lets try some html code. You might have to scroll down to see this chart:

<table BORDER COLS=3 WIDTH="500" HEIGHT="100" >
<tr><td>FUNCTION</td><td>GM Color</td><td>"Popular" Aftermarket Colors</td></tr>
<tr><td></td><td></td><td></td></tr>
<tr><td>+12v constant</td><td>orange</td><td>yellow</td></tr>
<tr><td>+12v switched</td><td>yellow</td><td>red</td></tr>
<tr><td>ground</td><td>black</td><td>black</td></tr>
<tr><td>antenna/remote</td><td>pink</td><td>blue</td></tr>
<tr><td>+12v clock dim signal</td><td>gray</td><td>n/c</td></tr>
<tr><td></td><td></td><td></td></tr>
<tr><td>left front +</td><td>tan</td><td>white</td></tr>
<tr><td>left front -</td><td>gray</td><td>white/black</td></tr>
<tr><td>right front +</td><td>lt green</td><td>gray</td></tr>
<tr><td>right front -</td><td>dk green</td><td>gray/black</td></tr>
<tr><td></td><td></td><td></td></tr>
<tr><td>left rear +</td><td>brown</td><td>green</td></tr>
<tr><td>left rear -</td><td>yellow</td><td>green/black</td></tr>
<tr><td>right rear +</td><td>dk blue</td><td>purple</td></tr>
<tr><td>right rear-</td><td>lt blue</td><td>purple/black</td></tr>
</table>

For the record, I always cut off the factory harness, and cut/splice/solder the radio wires directly in. I leave enough wire on the factory connectors so it can always be put "back to stock".
