help me save some $$$,need wiring info for pioneer 12 pin HU,..please!

thanks for replying,..my friend has an old school (1996) Pioneer Premier DEH-49 am/fm CD head unit, which he is missing the 12-pin harness from. the stereo shop quoted us $49.oo for the damn thing!! ofcourse we can't do much without the harness,however...if someone here has a similar radio and can tell me which wires are where in the 12-pin configuration,I would have no problems hooking this up without the harness! I would like to just de-solder the female connector from the circuit board and solder color coded wires directly to the board.....saving my friend $50!!

call up pioneer directly and see how much they want for it. if your soldering straight to the pins thats not a good idea IMO. If say your ground came loose, or broke the pinn hitting a bump (they are pretty thin) and came in contact with the memory if your not using fuses .. then thats bad. Even with a fuse its still a pain, or if he wanted to sell it to someone that will have the same problem as you. Order the wire harness and be safe (and easier)i think. But, its just a opinion.

the object is to save $$

de-soldering the female connector from the board and soldering the correct guage wire directly into the board is perfectly ok,ofcourse it involves taking the radio apart a little. that would save me about $30. finding the ground and acc/mem would be easy, but getting the correct polarity for the speakers is what I'm worried about....although nothing will be powered from th HU when this system is done....hmmm..

piece of cake!

GO-HO AUDIO in Newport News,VA wanted $65 for the replacement pioneer harness!! but the man there did tell me that the 12 pins are actually labled on the green side of the circuit board. he was 100% correct! (BUP,back up power,ACC,REM,RL+,RL-,FR+ ect......) there were only 12 pins. I bought a de-soldering vaccume for $6.99 and my friend bought a GM wiring harness for $4.99. the entire pioneer HU had to come apart, first the top cover, then the CD player, then the main circuit board & amp......finally I could get at the bottom of the circuit board! using a cheap radioshack 15 watt soldering iron, which works more like a 0.15 watt iron,I connected all but the orange (park. lights) wire to the board. it was a bit of a pita, but saving $65 and replacing a piece of junk AC Delco system with a beautiful Pioneer Premier made it all worth it.
