right now I have an Alpine w/ polk ex 4x6" in the front, infiniti 6953 6x9"s in the rear powered by an Alpine V12 75x2 it sounds good but I need some bass. I want crisp deep bass which sounds realistic and matches the mids & highs power wise. I have a JL 500/1 monoblock and a 4th order bandpass box (two sealed cabinets firing into one vented cabinet) w/ two 8" JL W-3s, this isn't working out. either the JL monoblock is way too much power for two 8" subs or I have the wrong type of box for my listening preferences. should I keep the JL 8"s and build a different box? or get rid of the amp and subs and go for something more practical? thanks...it's not easy building the perfect system!

I'd try those JLs in a nice sealed box. Bandpass boxes are great if they are built specifically for the subs in use, but if you just slap a pair of subs into a prefab bandpass box, 99.44% of the time it sucks.
Plus, what have you got to lose? Replace stuff one thing at a time. A decent small box for those subs won't cost a fortune, and if you're handy you could even make it yourself.

you could make a box that fit right down in the middle of the trunk.. leaving enough space for a six pack and some chips on one side, and an amp on the other.. I know this, b/c I just did it. My box is right at 1 cu. ft. I don't know how much you need for your 8"s, but both would fit in my box. the widest you can make the bottom and go all the way down(clearing the basin and the trunk latch on both sides) with out having to twist and turn and fight the box to get it in is.. I forget exactly between 6 and 7", you can go wider up tops, if you're good with wood and want to make the angles to fit the contour of the trunk basin. I would think that with the angle cuts in the front, you could get maybe another .3-.5 cu. ft. When I get my car out of the shop, and put my amp in, I'll post some pics.
