6X9 boxes
Since I've got my interior out, is the "box" that GM made for our 6X9's any good? I was thinking of making a new box myself, probably will be too lazy, but I'd like opinions anyway.

GM didn't make a box. There's a little plastic wrap covered insulation back there which is mainly just designed to damp resonance so that the exterior panels don't vibrate. Other than reducing vibrations, it's useless.

Yeah, that's the 'box' I was talking about. I would think that any kind of insulation would help around there, since the resonance would rattle the body panel. Is it worth boxing, or does that insulation work as well as anything I can build for such a small area?

It really depends on your specific application. Most 6x9s are well enough damped to work fine in an infinite-baffle style enclosure. Putting them in a small box tends to hurt lower bass output and make them thick or boomy. If you built a large enough enclosure, it would help, but it would be a very complex enclosure to fit down in there. I'd say pull that fabric enclosure out, stick a little dynamat to the panels in there, then put that enclosure back in and install your speakers. That'll be pretty easy and will sound pretty good for most applications.
