Want audio system, please help!
Hey guys, i wanted to know how much it would cost for 4 subs, 2 new speakers, 2 good amps, 1 really! powerfull amp, and some accessories for a 92 z28?? I wanted an estimate on this type of system, but parts from pretty good companies. I just graduated high school and my parents gave me a grand!! themsleves, and i am having a party soon with other relatives, which should get me quite a bit more.
Any ideas and product names and prices would be great, oh yea, if anyone has pics of their own systems please post them, i am lookin for custom ideas.

i'm sure you've heard this from your parents.. but save your money man.. I don't know if/where you're going to college.. but the **** is ****ing expensive.. plus, if you go to college.. and park outside.. if you have this bad *** system, people will notice, and it WILL get stolen. that's why i'm trying to keep mine low key. I want good bass response, but mainly to hold up the bottom end of the sound spectrum, not to rattle OTHER people's windows
for a good balanced system though. I would say to get a good head unit. I prefer ones w/ at least 3 band EQ.. Pioneer, Blaupunkt. I have a Pioneer, and I'd be lying if I said who has the best stuff, b/c I don't know. I'm sure Jim can give you a better run down. The Blaupunkt Casablanca looks sweet as hell, but I've never heard one, it's $279@crutchfield. Replace the stock speakers.. I'd say get a plate system for the 4x6's.. Infinity's are nice, but expensive. maybe some JBL, Polk, or Infinity 6x9's, and 1 Eclipse 10" titanium series sub, w/ a good kicker amp or something like that. I'm really just thinking through the keyboard, I may have just suggested the worst system known to man. If I did, I'm sure someone will clear it up.

The caliber of system you're describing will EASILY pass $1k before you even get it installed. A 'really! powerful' amp from a good company (to run your subs?) will cost upwards of $700 itself, and expect to spend at LEAST $400-$500 for 4 decent subs to handle that power. Are you planning on installing everything yourself? You may want to look into building your system in stages. Or look into used equipment to save some money. Just dont skimp on quality.

Ok i have changed my mind. At best buy i am buying a cd/mp3 deck which comes with 2 free speakers. I am just planning on getting 2 descent subs, and 1 descent amp to work together pretty well. the two subs i am looking for are fairly small. when i bought my camaro, there were two subas already installed in the rear. I am guessing that they are about 6-9 inches. And i am nto sure which amp would be good for these two subs, any ideas would be great!

whoa dude.. do you by chance have the Delco Bose Gold factory audio system? do you're "subs" in the trunk happen to be part of a very factory looking(b/c it is) rear trunk cover? has a lock in it and everything? If you have the bose system.. you're kick panels also have speakers in them... and if you have the bose sytem.. it's gonna be a complicated(and expensive) feat to put in a new stereo.. you need all kinds of adapters and ****. I know this b/c it's what I had. I ended up running speaker wire to the locations in the dash and the sail panels(where the speakers are located in non-bose 3rd gens). I didn't use ANY of the original bose things... look into that if that's what you have..
to explain the bose a little.. each speaker has it's own indiviual amp.. while that sounds kewl and all.. the amps are pieces of ****.. they aren't that reliable. the speakers are virtually indestructible, but the amps are ****. Another interesting tid-bit.. GM discontinued the speaker assemblies for our cars in aug. 2000(or maybe it was 99.. i forget now.)... a long w/ most of the rest of the little odds and ends that break at unexpected time(a whole other rant there!)
so the factory head unit doesn't send the same level signal as after market ones do. if you send the signal from an aftermarket head unit to a bose speaker.. you'll blow the amp to ****... you need adapters to do it($11 ea).. and it's not worth it IMHO.
let us know if you have the bose...

I do have the bose, DAMN IT!! i was really psyched on getting a few new things, oh well...
I was thinking of these new things because as of now, if i were to even change gears on the car while the stereo os on, then all i hear is static, and fuzz(DAMN LOUD TOO!!) I know the radio signals are fine because it works great if the car is just idle, but the second it moves even a mm, it gets ****ed.
Anyone know what i can do??, this is really annoying, and i ALWAYS listen to music while driving, and right now, i am desperate! Someone please help, thx alot.
Oh yea, i'd like to let u all know that i am an idiot when it comes to wiring and takin things apart in the car, so if u got instruction, please detail them, otherwise anythign is good.
Thx alot!

sorry to burst your bubble man. I went through the same thing.. I just graduated too.. so for an early grad present to myself.. I put in a new stereo(so I could blast Free Bird while doing a burn out in front of the school.).. now the ungrateful little bitch of a car has started breaking left and right. but that's beside the point.
you can remove the rear panel, and tuck the wires down in the spare tire well pretty easily.. To remove the panel, you'll need a 10mm socket, and a small screwdriver to take the wire connectors apart with(pull the 4 little tabs to the side, and pry apart with the screw driver.. you can see what to do when you look at it.).
I just left the kick panels in, b/c i didn't feel like getting new ones. To put 4x6's(the size that fits in the dash locations).. you have to remove the dash pad.. there are several hex-head screws that hold it on.. they are 7mm.. or 7/32 if i recall correctly.. look to at the bottom of the dash pad where it meets the dash(where the plastic stops and the vinyl begins). and you'll see the screws i'm talking about..
there are also some in the center defrost vent area.. you can see them pretty easily. Lower your steering wheel all the way to get out the dash pad.. you may want to remove your rear view mirror as well. you can see where the speakers should mount.
running the wire to the fronts is easy. drop it down right through the middle of the dash, if you put a flashlight down where the stereo goes, you can see the light through the dash..
running the wires to the sail panels is a bit of a pain in the *** ..
you have to take of the trim piece that says body by fisher on it.. 4 or 5 screws I believe.. and then you get to have all kinds of fun moving the plasic pannels enough to run wire up to the sail pannel area where the 6x9's mount. You'll need to get the plate to mount the 6x9's too out of another 3rd gen. head to the junk yards..

redcamaro..
you can't just use the bose wiring.. I was going too.. hell I was even going to go so far as to mount new speakers in the bose locations.. if only it were that easy. The bose wire packs each have 4 wires. not two.. one ground, one power, one audio +, one audio -, only they're not at the same level as regular speakers.. as far as I know, you can't even just use the wiring's audio wires with a regular head unit and have it work..
I still have the whole harness in my car... I just ran new wires.. and bought the kit to tap into the power block.. in case I sell the car and want to just put the factory stereo back in.. and keep my **** for another car.
