Anyone ever try making a Stealth box for a 3rd gen??

If someone out there is creative with fiberglass, they should. I just finished installing my new stereo in the '97, and 1 10" Eclipse Aluminum with a nice amp blows away many systems around here with 2 12s. What's even better is that it wouldn't take up your entire trunk either!! Plus, the side mounting allows air to radiate more, and get more out of what you have...

Just my 2 cents

I did in my 91 bird a while back. Had it where the storage cubby is. With a 10w6, it sounded great. unfortunately, i do not have access to a 3rd gen anymore, or I would make them for people.

How hard was it to do?? I'm full of good ideas, but no thoughts on how to implement them I'd love to do a small amp and sub for the RS though...

You can do a search in the archives for a discussion we had on this very topic.

DJSexay offered to make them, but what it came down to, was that pretty much noone other than me was willing to pay what it would cost for one.

That, and I don't have a 3rd gen any more, nor know anyone locally, to use to make a master from.

Oh ya, there was that other hitch too.

Anyway, it _would_ have been a cool idea.

Well, I'd certainly lend my Formula to the cause if need be. What were you looking at for prices? (I would search the archives, but I seem to never find what I'm looking for.)

Well, your about a 2 1/2 hour ride from me. If you are interested, here are the details:

1) I would need the car all day on a weekend, and it needs to be a day with 0 humidity, or else the fiberglass takes several hours to cure, where normally it takes 45 minutes per layer.

2) The donor car would recieve on sub box for cost of materials only (probably $40 to $50) Finished product, I'm guessing I would charge $200ish, depending on amount of time involved per box.

3) I would not have time to do this until mid August.

That sounds reasonable. I would be interested. How did the box fit in? Did that big panel have to be removed for the box to be put in?

The cardboard storage box had to be removed, and the little door got holes drilled into it to turn it into a grill.

I'll be watching to see if this goes through next month.

Mike,
Do you think you'd be able to do a driver's side box as well as the passenger side one? I'm thinking one 10" sub might not be enough.

Well, I wouldn't get your hopes up yet, I still need a local volunteer, but even more so than that, time becomes an issue. Right now, I finishing some things on my wife's car, and then I'm gonna be doing another kickpanel batch, as there seems to be some more interest brewing for those, and these will be a new improved "revision B" kickpanel. After that, I really need to get started on my own vehicle if I have hopes of being ready for Spring Break. Let's revisit this topic in early to mid August and we'll see from there.

If and when I do these, Not sure if there'd be enough demand to make it worth doing the passenger side, as I'm sure most people would not mind giving up the storage box, but fewer would be willing to give up the spare tire.

I took a beating financially on this last kickpanel sale. At $100 a set, most of it was eaten by materials since it was my first big batch. If I do sub boxes, I know it will take nearly $100 in materials alone for each box. Add $150 to $200 for the several days of labor. Like I said, we shall see, I don't want to seriously consider this project until I get others knocked out of the way first.

Oh, on a side note, I had a single 10W6 in my 91, with 600 watts, and I hit 133db with the mic in the seat, it would probably have been higher at the windshield like they measure now.

I have had a chance to build one of these boxes. From what I understand, if you are going to mass produce them, you will probably want to make "plug" and then make a mold of that. The mold has to be two pieces, so you can take it out of the mold.

$100 in materials sounds about right (I'm thinking its closer to $75), but it will take you a while to do, and it will cost a pretty penny to ship (the one I made I had to drag back home in a greyhound and never got around to installing it.).

Hell, if I find it in my parents house, I would be game to let you borrow it as a plug.
