Amp overheating
Amp overheating
I have a Kenwood KAC-626 amp wired to my old Bazooka sub. I think the amp was 70x2. For the speaker hookups, it has some writing that says "bridge" by connecting left side + with right side -. I then ran these wires to the + and - posts on the old Bazooka speaker.
It was working, but after driving for awhile it cuts out. Then it will come on again eventually. After I got home today, I checked the amps. My RF 400a4 that runs the 4 other speakers was just warm. The Kenwood was insanely hot - it burned me!
So I assume it is overheating. I don't know much about wiring this stuff up or ohms or anything. Do I have it wired incorrectly?
The amp sits on the hump behind the rear seats and should get as much airflow as possible. The RF is right next to it and (like I said), it was fine.

I flipped the switch on the amp from stereo to mono. How do I know if the Bazooka speaker is 2 ohms? Assuming it is, should I just run the amp non-bridged from the left side... or what?
I guess so. It'll handle 2 ohms in stereo, just not bridged. You'd have to look on the bazooka somewhere to find out it's impedance (i never mess with the things, never seen one, don't really want to).
