What size are the speakers on a 92' Vert.?
What size are the speakers on a 92' Vert.?
Was hoping someone could tell me the size of the front's and rear's so I can buy a replacement set before I tear up my car. Also, if you have replaced yours recently, did it take long and should I "not do something"?
Thanks in advance...Alex

Hey,
Got a 91 convertible and I've replaced the speakers twice.
In the dash you have 4x6" plate speakers. In the rear you have 5 1/4" speakers.
You can get 5 1/2" and larger in the rear but expect to do some cursing and cutting.
Another thing to remember is speaker depth. You have very little depth to mount the plate speakers. Under 2" in the front and I think the same for the rear.
I had a pair of kenwood 4x6 plate speakers in the dash and replaced them with infinity kappa 4x6 plate speakers. Also had a pair of JBL 5 1/2" speakers in the rear and replaced them with infinity kappa 5 1/4" speakers.
Only trick I can tell ya is to cover the defrost holes when you remove the screws for the dash. There is one on each side that is directly above the vent. Lose the screw and down the vent it goes. If you do lose it and your lucky you might be able to get it with a magnet on some string.
The rears are pretty easy.
There are a couple of screws hidden behind the seat on the panels. Don't just yank like crazy thinking it's stuck. You've missed a screw somewhere.
Best tip I can give you is to park the car in the shade or garage, put the top down and have plenty of brew in the fridge. Putting the top down makes things alot easier and much much cooler working conditions.
If ya need any help just email me at

Hey again,
Just did some things on the car this weekend and I was wrong about the rear speaker depth. You ca go at least 3" deep. And a 5.5" to 6" speaker would be as big as I would go back there. There's a metal brace back there that may give you problems with the magnet. Just try and find a good pair of 5.25" speakers and you will have no problems installing.
The dash is the biggy.
You definately can't go any deeper than 1 3/4". The infinity speakers I put in are 1 15/16" and the drivers side speaker sticks up a little bit, but not far enough to cause the dash not to fit.
The infinity speakers do sound nice though. Not harsh sounding at all!
Take care and glad I could be of help.
