Re: will these speakers fit my car?

6 x 9's will fit rear. think the dash is 4 x 6 - but you might do a search, I think someone converted the dash speakers to round but I don't remember what size.

Merry X-mas

Re: will these speakers fit my car?

To fit the 6.5 speakers, your gonna be cutting some of the plastic heat/cool duct out!

You can use a heat gun and soften the defrost ducting and shape it out of the way. I've seen installers do this on other cars.

Re: will these speakers fit my car?

Or you can fab (or buy if you've got 200$) kick panel speaker mounts that would allow you to put the 6.5's down by your feet angling upward for better sound projection. They will fit in the dash with a little persuasion, chances are though you'll have a bunch of dash rattles when the bass hits, although they can be fixed pretty easy. Either way the 6.5's will sound MUCH better than the 4x6's
Good luck
Alex

Re: will these speakers fit my car?

It's pretty straight forward, there are heating/AC ducts near the speaker that will get in the way if a speaker with a larger depth and magnet are used. Simply take a heat gun, heat them up, and bend them out of the way until you can fit the speaker you want in there.

Sorry for jackin the thread...and IM pretty sure the answer is somewhere in the forum....but how would u keep the windshield from cracking with the heat? Would some bags of ice on the outside do the work? lol

Thanks.

Re: will these speakers fit my car?

Ice on the out side might make it worse because of the drastic temp difference. I actually used a very expensive soldering iron that gets REALLY hot, just molded small sections at a time and didn't get my windshield hot.

Re: will these speakers fit my car?

6" speakers fit my '86Ta without too many problems. Passenger dropped in, but I needed to do some slight trimming on the drivers side. The dash is pulled out easily.

Be sure the speakers are not too tall and try not to let the tweeter cone sit above the speaker as they will contact the grill.
