Question about a car alarm
Question about a car alarm
Is it hard to install a car alarm yourself? I got this crimestopper alarm with a pager remote thing and was thinking about doing it myself. never did anything like this before, so do you think i would be able to do it myself, or leave it to the pros? thanks.

It depends what you know about electronics. An alarm isn't too difficult, but it involves cutting functional wires and if you're not sure what you're doing, that can mean trouble. Then again, I really didn't know too much when I started and I learned a lot. I just didn't want a buisness doing a half-assed job on my baby...this way, I've got things done how I want them.
There's also somewhat of an art to installing an alarm system. If your module if just taped under the dash with all the wires easy to find, it won't do much good against a good theif. You should hide the module somewhere creative, and try to disguise your wiring as much as possible to look like factory wiring, using wire loom etc. But taking it to a shop may not guarantee a good install either...
Oh and take a look at www.the12volt.com , they have some info about car alarm installation, maybe it would be of some help to you.

I heard a rumor you could pull off the top of the dashpad and their is lots of room to install stuff there. Drop it back on when you are done, and a theif will have a hell of a time hotwiring your car, or bypassing the alarm.
