any sort of "baffle" or anything else that resembles is a plate will sound like crap. You may as well save your money on the Type R and put a Pyramid sub with a Jensen amp in. The plates let so much air leak that no sub has any hopes of sounding good.

i dont see what your saying the baffle is screwed down to the back would you be talking about right next to the gas tank because when i placed it in i had to use a rubber mallet to get it to go in and it is very tight, but i wont disagree because you could probably know more than i do what would you suggest to do and since its already paid for then i will tell you the results.

If you use a plate to cover the rear storage area, whether it fits tight or not, you'll have nowhere near an airtight fit. A ton of air will get around all of the plastic panels in the rear. I've been there, and as many others have seen me say over and over.....
Plates suck.

its on the lower part of the trunk with the xlc in there right now it sounds better than my two 12in kicker comps ever did but then again i know the kickers were ****. but what your saying is there is now way the baffle is going to sound good so when i get the type r should i put in in a box and sell the baffle and will there be a box that fits in the trunk part it doesnt have to be custom either as long as it fits.
I agree completely that unless its in a box, it wont sound good...or it might be better to say that it will definetly sound much better in a box. Even if you make a box, if you dont use 3/4 mdf it can still not be totaly sealed. I once built a box for a MTX 12 out of cheap wood, sounded okay but when I put it in a box with Identical internal volume made of 3/4" MDF it sounded lots louder and better. Dont waste your time with baffle setup because even if you sealed the top, the bottom (of the trunk) will still give when the sub hits. It may be easier, but definetly not better!
