Vert Speakers

Hey guys I have a 1988 IROC convertible and have a few questions about the speaker sizes and such. Ok first off am I correct in assuming that the slot for the receiver is the same on ther vert as it is on the regular coupes and such? Secondly are the dash speakers 4x6, and the rear speakers 6x9 as in the coupe camaros? or different in the convertibles. And lastly how do i remove the rear speakers, due to the soft top there is no sail panel in which my speakers are located, it's this little grill thing thats located a few inches above the rear seat but I don't see any screws or anything on how to remove it, does it just pop off? any help will be appreciated, thanks in advance guys

Well, I think I can help ya out a little here.

We got a 91 vert and I've been inside and out doing stereo stuff on it.

Dash speakers are 4x6 and have a mounting depth of less than 2"

Rear speakers are 5 1/4" , but I've seen people put 6 1/2" speakers back there with minor if any modification. Depends on how bad ASC hatchet job is on your car. I can't fit 6.5" in my 91 because there's a bar in the way.

As for radio mounting...
A 1.5DIN will fit.
You can also get a regular DIN radio and just buy a aftermarket radio install kit which is usually under $20.

To get to the rear speakers.....
DO NOT pull on the grill!!!

It's best to put the top down and grab a phillips screwdriver.
You have to remove the plastic trim piece that runs up the body.

Then remove the screws surrounding the front seatbelt area in the rear of the car by the door.

There's also 1 more screw under that plastic piece that you removed first.

Fold the seat down and look for two more screws near the back of the panel. There's also on way down in the seat, but you might not have to take it out unless you want to remove the whole panel.

To remove the speaker grill....
Look on the back of the panel and you will see the bolts coming through.

To remove the speaker....
1st remove the grill to access the speaker screws from the front.

you might have to remove the black rear armrest. It's held down with 2 screws that are located underneath the armrest in the panel.

Hope this helps and have fun.
