Couple questions on 0gauge wire.
Couple questions on 0gauge wire.
I'm gonna run the wire for my new system which I'm gonna get in teh next couple of months. I need to run 0 gauge to the dist. block. what I'm wondering is...... where would be a good spot to run the wire without making it look like there's a snake in the car? and also the cheapest I can find 0g wire will cost like $75 to do my car? is the the average? thanks for the help
first off i would say to make sure you need 0 gauge, and if you do, one possibility would be to run it under your center console under the carpet or ive even seen it run underneath the car then up into the back, but one thing i will say is with that size wire dont be cheap on the fuse or circuit breaker.and for what you would need for a third gen that sounds about the right price

You coulden't run it down the center console becouse it would be too visable under the carpet between the seats. I'd run it either under the car or down the side panel that runs with the door if it'll fit. Another thing, if you're just going to be running a single 500.1 like it says in your sig. 0 ga is not really required. Distribution blocks and cable will just end up costing more. 4 ga is usually sufficiant unles you plan on drawing lots of volts.

I plan on running that 500.2 amp and then one 4 channel amp later on. I'm not sure on the amp for sure, but it'll be around a 40amp fuse on teh amp. and I know 0g is overkill but I wanna run at least 2 and I can't find it anywhere.

You should be able to get 30ft of 0g wire for around $45. Thats Streetwires too, not RadioShack krap.. If you dig through Google, im sure you could find it even cheaper.
Ive never done a 3rd Gen install, but down the side panels is the easiest to do without ripping out the seats and carpet.

There's plenty of room to run it along the rocker panels, under the edge of the carpet. You'll have to run it under the seatbelt mount, and then it'll tuck right under the rocker panel near the wiring harness. You can drill a hole in the passenger kick panel and run it to the engine bay that way. If you run it down the driver's side, it gets more difficult. You'll have to remove the fender to run it through the kick panel, or you'll have to find a spot in the firewall, and it's going to be tough to route 0-AWG around the pedals without leaving a bump under the carpet.

I agree with Jim (as usual)! That's how my 4Ga is running. It goes thru a drilled firewall hole on the driver's side, and goes down along the door sill plate. If you pull up the door sill plate, and pull up the edge of the carpet, and reach down "inside", you'll find a 1" gap where the factory's run some wires inside a protective track. The wire should fit nicely in there.
Later, I replaced my carpet with a brand new ACC carpet (not the JCWhitney crap) from http://www.1aauto.com - for the same price as the JCWhitney stuff! When I had the seats and console and seatbelts out, I noticed I could get a "cleaner" run by going around the seatbelt retractor. So, you could unbolt your retractor to fit the wire better. Or, remove the driver's seat, and snake the wire past the retractor; that same wiring track is still there.
Tip: If you guys ever replace your carpet, it's a great time to re-do your wires.

You can snake it behind the seat belt retractor without pulling anything out. Just poke it down there and fish it up on the other side.

one option that i've heard, if you are not too picky about the look, is welding cable. it is very similar to the cable audio companies sell. it is very high strand due to the fact it has to be somewhat flexible. it also has very high tolerances due to the amount of power that has to flow through it in its normal application. Just make sure (which you should do anyway) that it is in wire looming when its in the engine compartment. I was able to find it (forgot the site) online for about $40 for a 25 ft length. they even sold stuff as big as 4/0
Ime currently running a 1200 watt system in my car and have 4g wire for the set up. I was told by prof. installer that 4g will handle at least 1500 watts. As far as running it, i ran mine under the carpet through the center console. I got a kit w/20feet of 4g, rcas 3 feet groung 4g speeaker wire and amp turn on wire for for $50. also check on ebay for kits. you can get them farly reasonable.
