Alarm Question
Alarm Question
I bought an alarm a few months ago and my Dad's friend installed it for me. He was an installer for a few years and is very good. Anyway,I bought an Excalibur AL900ATV2.That is what he recomended and he has the same alarm in his truck. The problem is that it keeps going off constantly for no reason. I'll arm it, and about twenty seconds to a few minutes later, it will go off. No one is triggering it. It just triggers by itself. I'll go to school and get out,arm it,and walk away, and it will go off. Then when I rearm it,it does the same thing. My dad got the same alarm at the same time as I did.His friend also installed it and he hasn't had a single problem with it.The guy who istalled it took his time and is very familiar with the alarm and installing them on third gens. The starter, battery, battery connections, and dome light are all fine. What is the matter?Any suggestions as to what could be wrong would be greatly appreciated. THANKS.
Did he put in a hood or trunk pin. Could it be something like that. Maybe even a door pin switch that is acting goofy. Something has to be triggering it. Doesn't sound like the shock sensor or anything like that.
That does sound odd. Many new cars have body control modules that "go to sleep" after a fixed period of time...which sets off the alarm unless the installer takes measures to prevent it. But your car is older and doesn't have anything like that.
I would suggest that you disable each protection zone one by one until the problem stops, then it will be identified.
You figure, unless you have some exotic features installed, there are only a few ways the alarm can trigger:
1. Car gets bumped (shock sensor).
2. Door gets opened.
3. Ignition gets turned on.
4. Hood or trunk is opened (optional).
So to start, have your friend disconnect the door trigger wire and see if the problem remains. If it does, hook the door trigger back up and move on to something else.
