market research - vinyl kickpanels

There has been an expressed interest in me making vinyl kickpanels in addition to tweed.

I have been playing with vinyl on a set of my new kicks, and I can do it, but it's gonna be pricey.

Would those interested in vinyl kickpanels still be interested at $200 a set ?? The vinyl only costs about $20 more than tweed, but it takes signifigantly more time, and I'm still trying to find an adheasive that works good enough. I'll be visiting an install friend of mine this week and getting a sample of what they use to try.

I can wrap a pair of kicks in tweed in less than 45 minutes. I spent nearly 2 hours with the vinyl today, and it is still not perfect.

Should I keep the $200 option available for vinyl, or just scrap it and stick to tweed ?

I'm not so sure about the vinal thing, but I can tell you, if you had carpet instead, I'd take it.

Buy the way, you got my kicks done, I cant wait, I'm drooling in anticipation...

yours are shipping tommorrow.

I don't offer carpet, because I have yet to find an aftermarket carpet that is durable enough, yet still easy to work with. Everything I have tried will get all fuzzy once you rub your feet on it.

I think I would keep the vinyl as an option. At $200.00 a set tho you prob. won't sell very many even tho I think I would like the look better with vinyl rather than tweed. But as everyone know that usually you do get what you pay for. And as you've stated in another post "you are kinda time limited as for working on the kicks", so your time and effort should have a price on it. I think tho that $200.00 is a good price for the vinyl kicks but like everyone else I always like cheaper. But I always like to have options.

Let me put this in perspective for you guys...

$200 will just barely get you a set of q-forms plastic flimsy kicks without any covering. Just dyed plastic.

Now, does $200 really seem that bad for a custom set of fiberglassed kicks wraped in vinyl? I don't think that's a bad price at all.

Mike, contact cement is the only thing that is going to hold in everyone's climates...any 3m product will peel in places like FL and TX. Spray on contact cement will hold as long as you apply it correctly.

I'm actually going to try brush on contact cement one of these days as I don't have access to a sprayer anymore.

I tried the Dap contact cement, but I am using Select's HF vinyl, and the vinyl wants to pull back as it cools, the contact cement doesn't hold it well enough. Maybe I'm not doing it right.

I want to try the heat activated adheasive from select, but I do not have air, but I figure it should work brushed on as well ?? Plus, that stuff is a bit on the pricey side.

do a search for Kickpanels, or under my username for some discussion on them. You can also visit my website, www.djsexay.com for info.

I do not want to get too deep into discussion, because I feel I may be 'wearing out my welcome' here with my advertising.

Ofcourse, you can always email me privately.

hrmm, vinyl is nice, how about leather
i would love carpet options as well, just use that acoustic carpet. with carpet you dont need to finish the product as well becuase the carpet hides alot of flaws...

I've yet to find a carpet that meets my standard for durability. It always seems to fray and get fuzzy.

I may try it just to add that option. We''l see.
