They have products that are from the manufactures and also from retailers.

I paid $165 for my JVC El Kameleon that normally retails for +$300. It was a "reconditioned" unit. Basically that means that it was broke and JVC fixed it. It still came with 90 days parts/1 yr labor warranty. How can you beat that?

As far as manufactures go, just stay away from names that you've never heard, and you should be OK. Mainly because if you've never heard of them then that means that they're junk, or just too damn expensive for you. I know some of them are too expensive for me.

When it comes to speakers, nobody's suggestions mean a damn. You need to go listen to as many speakers as possible. You'll soon discover that they all sound different, and everybody has a different favorite (which is why our opinions don't mean much). Bring some tunes that you're real familiar with, and listen to as many speakers as possible, including ones you can't afford. This will help you see what "good sound" sounds like, and eventually you'll find an inexpensive pair that you're satisfied with.
