AMP Question!
AMP Question!
hey guyz i had to take my amp out of my car so i could get the body repaired, i jsut got the car back today, it looks great! but my problem is that whenever i attach the battery cable to the amp it blows the fuse! does anyone have any ideas on what might be casueing this??? thanks
sounds like you are touching the power wire to a metalic object that is grounded. I always seem to do that at least once when hooking up an amp.
Try unhooking the power wire from the battery and then hooking it up to the amp and then hook back up the battery. If it still does it, I have no idea what it is.

your power wire is grounding out. before you hook ANYTHING up, trace a path along the wire until you find where it's touching metal. If you absolutely, positively find no grounding, it's probobly your amp

ok you guyz are saying the my power wire is "grounding" im not sure what that means...does it mean that somewhere on my main power cable there is a slice in the protective coating and the wires inside are touching metal somewhere?
Here's another quick thought on this:
What part of your car got repaired/painted?
If it was around the area that you had your amp ground wire connected to the body/chasis, then the body shop might have a) removed the amp ground and not re-attached it or b) removed the ground connection, painted over it, and then replaced it again meaning that your ground cable is no longer touchiing the metal surface directly.
Of course, this is only useful info if they were working in the area of your amp ground. But it would be worth checking. Good luck!
