just wondering what peoples preference on a perticular subwoofer such as infinities, W7, L7, momos, or anything like that? (Im looking for setting up something inside the rear pannel sides of my 94 firebird(spare tire and opposite side))

I use 12 in w0's, which im going to sell and get w6's real soon. The W0's can't handle my kicker. Your planning on putting them in the side panels, thats kewl. Mine are shooting against the glass which is good because the sound bounces to me with less power put out, jsut now I can't store my t-tops in my car anymore. I have setup on my page.

I'd be interested in some non-biases SPL measurements between subs aimed at the glass, and subs aimed at each other stealth box style. I've seen many people report that having the subs "bounce off the glass" makes it louder. But I have to disagree. I fail to see the actual theory behind this, since bass is non directional. Having tweeters bounce off the glass would be louder, but subs ??

FWIW, I like the W3 for a nice SQ / SPL combination.

I've always heard that the purpose of firing them into the hatch glass reflects the sound waves into the windshield for a better illusion that the bass is coming from up front.

I know that true sub-bass is below 60Hz, but the lack of bass from the 4x6s in the dash is why many people use this tactic. They feel that if you crossover the subs at more around 70-80Hz, that it will fill in the void that is left from the 4x6s. Take into consideration that is an old belief (before kick panels were used) that still roams the earth.

I myself cannot hear that illusion. I think my ears are too sensative. To me it just sounds like more midbass coming from the rear.

I have my subs crossed over at 55hz. It's that fine line of where I can't tell where the bass is coming from. I still have no midbass from the front (yea DJSexay, I know I should buy some of your kick panels ), but it is harder to tell where the bass is coming from by having them crossed over that low.

The concept of firing them face to face would help hide the midbass that is still present even from a 12db/octave crossover. That would be similar to a 2nd order encloser, wouldn't it? I think it would work quite well. You'd still take advantage of the cabin gain, but the bass should be even less directional.

Just my 2¢,
AJ

I still think most people would not tell an audible difference between aiming at the glass and aiming at each other. I'd love to do a double blind test if I had the flexibility to do so.

if the subs were say, within 6 to 4 " of the glass, I'd could see a mild slot loading effect happening, but other than that, i don't know.
