Just updating on the progress...only getting to work on them about 30 mins per day sux, but they're getting there...

I noticed the pic that looked like melted vinyl was tittled "Kick Textured". What kind of texture are you using. I am remaking some panels in my hawk, and am probably just going to use vinyl, but would really like to some how get the oem plastic grain. I've used SEM texture coat before, but it doesn't give a vinyl grain pattern like the 4th gen plastic is. Plus, it's not very durable.

Well, something that I was able to accomplish on a piece of plexi I for some reason could not duplicate on the fiberglass/bondo base.
My test piece of plexi I was able to just about match the factory texture of the 3rd gen dash exactly using a combination of PlastiKote Wrinkle finish, high build primer and some 600 grit paper.
It basically never wrinkled properly on the kicks though...not sure as to why, so I'll just end up giving them a satin or semi-gloss paint and a few good coats of clear to keep the nicks away...
I would rather vinyl them, but I can't seem to streatch the curve down at the bottom of the door and still keep everything looking right on the face...streatched and streatched and just couldn't get a good form...
Back to the texturing, if you want to give it a shot, here's what I managed on the original test piece...
1. prep and spray the piece as directed on the wrinkle finish...3 medium-heavy coats 10 mins apart each
2. Let dry for 24 hours to fully texture and seal up
3. spray several light coats of high build primer to sort of fill in the deep valleys of the wrinkle finish
4. 600 grit dry sand to desired texture blend.
That made about a 90% match to the factory texture...let me know if you are able to get it to work on the kicks

I went to a local Vinal place (Dr. Vinal) and in looking through their books, I came across numerous textured vinal samples that seemed like they would make an excellent match for various interiors. I don't recall specifically seeing one and thinking, "Wow! That looks just like the fourth-gen interiors!", but I'm sure that one of them probably matched.
