question about cheap subs..READ READ
alright heres the deal. I know this guy, he went to justwoofers.com and bought these pyramid subs. Now trust me, I am usually not down with buying anything cheap, when it comes to ANYTHING. BUT..he bought these, four twelves for like $150, and put all 4 in his sunbird. The boxes he built werent to any type of specs, cuz he didnt have any. He just did his best. Anyways he was only running 300 watts to them. and they POUNDED. I mean it wasnt like cheap sounding bass or anything, if I didnt know what they were I would think they were good name brand. I was just thinking, if he ran like 1000 to them, they would be crazy. I guess my question is this.... soon I am gunna HOPEFULLY be buying a 92 corsica off of my friend. It comes with a 200watt pioneer amp, and a 15" MTX thunder 3000. Now yeah its loud, but Im thinking, would it be worth it to buy 2 12 pyramids, and build a nice box for them, and run about a 400 watt amp or so to them and see what they can do? At walmart I can pick up like a 700 watt pioneer amp for under $200. should I try it out and see what I can do? thanks alot. heres a pic.

#1 If I ran 1000 watts to those subs from a Memphis amp, $20 says there would be noting left of them after three seconds.
#2 Quality over quanity. I'll bet that an one good would sound better and pound harder than all four of your friends subs.
#3 I'm not a fan of cheap equiptment. Wally world amps and cheapy subs are not the way to achive a good sounding system. Buy one good sub now and buy a small amp to power it now. Later you can move that smaller amp to the fronts and bring in a more powerful amp. After that you can add another sub. Don't make decisions that you'll regret, left over equiptment = money you could have spent to get better stuff.
Just a few thoughts,
Matt

Have him get it metered at a dB drag competition. I'll bet he's not higher than 13x dB. You can get that with a pair of 10s and a good amp.
yeah I am sure that they wouldnt handle that power. Also, just because the amp is bought at wal mart doesnt mean its cheap, I mean its a pioneer. What I would do is just take the 200 watt amp he has going to the sub, and put it to the rear 6X9's, cuz those are aftermarket. The head unit doesnt power them nearly to their potential. He has ran 200 watts to each 6X9 before, and they screamed. Do u know where I can get a good like say.....400 watt amp for pretty cheap? Thanks alot.
