Which speakers would fit my needs?...

Alright well I'm starting from scratch again. I'm going with the Pioneer 3400 CD head unit, maybe the 4400. But Kenwood, is rather more pricey, and Alpine is real pricey. So I've decided the 3400 or 4400 would be the best out of price and quality, its even got the MOSFET chip in it.

I was thinking of finishing off my speakers with Pioneer ones, so I could have a whole system based on Pioneer. But it seems pioneer isn't the best in the speaker world. So I was thinking maybe JBL, Infinity, or Kicker. I heard Kicker was real good with bass. These speakers cost a bit more, but hopefully I won't regret that.

I am looking for speakers that can be powered by the Pioneer 3400. I figured with the MOSFET chip, it should be good enough, so (for now) I wouldn't have to buy an Amp. So just a headunit and speakers, no subwoofers or amps. I want excellent crisp and clear bass, no distortion, and nice midrange, I would also like good enough highs that can penetrate the bass, I don't want a headache with all the bass. I mainly want a nice clear, crisp sounding overall speakers. I listen mainly to rock, but I do like some hip-hop, a good band that would have both the rock highs and hiphop lows, would be Linkin Park. Great band btw. Thats the type of music I listen to, and techno, just a lot of mixes of deep and high tones.

I only want to spend 200 dollars on the speakers (all four of them as a whole). Maybe 250, but thats certainly where I stop, I like having money. So what do you recommend? Tell me about your personal experience you've had with specific speakers. Tell me about that Pioneer 3400, hows that? All opinions accepted, good or bad, post. Thanks a lot!

Well Pioneer certinly is not the best speaker company. Thee HU's seem good, my friend has never had a problem with his and they are priced very good.

If I was you, I'd dump the rear speakers and spend that money on front speakers. Everyone on this board has a differant opinion on speakers so go to a shop and listen to every speakers there. You'll soon find out what you like and how much it costs, if it's in your budget go for it. Remember when you buy cheap stuff it will usually come back and get you when its sitting in its box a few months later.

Eclipse and Boston make excellent speakers, but you'll be putting yourself over the $200 price limit going with that kind of stuff. I have Eclipse and the 6x9's range from $130-$160. The 4x6's are $70-$80. Components will get you a much better sound, but you'll spend $200 just for a nice set of kicks. If you have the money now though, spending an extra $50 or $75 now to get something really nice as opposed to something you'd settle for will make you much happier in the long run.

Pioneer speakers aren't that good at all, but for only $250, don't expect to get too good of a sound from any speaker unless it's used.

250 is a small budget, but if it ws me. I Would go with cerwin vega 4X6 plates in the front ($150 or so), and a pair of so-so 6X9's in the rear. put the cash up front, its all about front staging.

Here's a possibility that may work for you: pick up a complete set of Orion's Cobalt series speakers (4x6's and 6x9's). There are a couple of reasons to do this:
1) They are pretty cheap and would meet your budget.
2)They allow you to maximize the power draw from your system without an amp. This is because they are 3ohm speakers instead of the regular 4ohms. Orion and their distributors preach that these speakers can be played off of your deck and will draw 33% more power without hurting it. This way, you can squeeze as much power as possible from your system without adding an amp.

They're listed on ebay for really cheap prices, but the in-store sticker is a lot higher. You can use these links as a reference:

Orion Cobalt 4x6's on Ebay

Orion Cobalt 6x9's on Ebay

Now, I've heard these in-store (running off of deck power) and they're not exactly the best around. But they might be the best set of speakers available for $200&under. That's a pretty low budget. These shouldn't come to more than $175-$200 after tax. Or if you don't mind ebay items, you could either pick these up for well under your budget or upgrade to something better. Anyway, just food for thought. Good luck.

Aight guys, I'm goin for the 4400. Today my friend had his pickup truck, he has huge 12 inch Rockford Fosgates. Well we put in Nine inch nails and stuff, and it sounded like absolute crap, just WAAAAYYY too much bass for rock music. I mean its perfect for Rap, but I'm not into that. So I'm going to rephrase my question... Which speakers should I get that would sound great with rock music? I'm not going to go with Subs, cuz thats just too much bass, don't need subs for rock. I need some good pure sound, no distortion, nice and clear, I need a little bass of course, but I need perfect ones for my type of music... so whatchas think?
Thanks a bunch.

I'd have to disagree: I think bass is absolutely necessary for rock music (especially for NIN, dude. Imagine the downward spiral without any bass.... it would be sad.)

Your friend probably had his sub tuned and adjusted to accentuate the "boomy-ness" of the bass and most likely has it drowning out the high's and mid's as well. It's all about how you apply it.

I'm not saying go out and buy a sub if that's not what you want to do. Just that it's not as simple as writing low off frequencies because somebody has his stereo tuned for rap.

Anyway, it sounds like you'd be better off with components. A decent set will provide with a reasonable range and a lot more clarity than a coaxial. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of room in your budget to do that. Not impossible, but certainly difficult to say the least. Also, 4x6's up front would really no longer be an option.
