Illumination Wire (Orange) goes....

MY past 2 decks havn't had this wire. My new deck does. I don't see anything that it connects to. What's it for, the instructions don't elaborate on it?

its for the dimmer switch that you use for you dash lights. Don't even need it, i never hook it up anyways. Just trim it outta the way and dont worry about it

If you use a wiring harness and the stock wiring adapter is intact it should hook right up.

It gets tricky without a harness because you have to tap into a circuit that works with your dashboard lights.

You don't need to use it, but a dimming feature is nice on the eyes at night time

I agree. Some radios have buttons that are hard to see at night, so when that wire is hooked up, it backlights some of the buttons so you can read them.

Didn't use the wire, all my buttons etc are lit up. Rather brighter than my gauges but I can live.

Mine didn't use it. There is a grey wire that just feeds a hot to the stock deck lights to light it up at night, when your parking or head lights are on. There is no "dimming" wire on the older ones (88' and older) "that I am aware of" that is.

I've got an '85. There is a grey wire from the car but I didn't wire it to anything. The deck is lit up all the time cause it's an LED bit.
