12vott for memory and power HELP NEEDED

I am just abotu finished with my new stereo install. I bought a wiring harness only only one thing wrong, when I wire up the yellow led for the memory to the harness the radio don't work, but when i connect the wire to the standard 12vot power the red lead, it works, but the memory won't remain.

So my question is what do I need to do, which wire is the memory on the old car?Anyone have experniced this problem?

Thats wierd...could be a short somewhere or maybe a defective head unit. Try running the memory wire directly off the fuse block and see if that fixes the problem.

What you need to do is hook up the yellow wire on the stereo to a constant 12v source.(wire that has 12v when the ignition is turned off) You can check for 12v with a test light or volt meter. Not forsure what wire it is on the original wire harness in the car if its been butchered, but you can run the yellow wire to a constant 12v source at the fuse box. Should work just fine when this is done and you will have memory for your stereo. Hope this helps you out.

ive actually had to deal with some bull**** like that when installing a alpine deck into a 91 (i think) talon...called up alpine and they actually told me to splice the power cable and run a lead from it into where the fuse goes in....it worked....but it also loses its memory

This will not run your battery down as it draws very little voltage to store memory. I dont know how long a battery will last, more and likely a very very long time if your battery is in good condition. I have never had a problem with my stereo installs in any cars that I have had. It is not a problem.
