New Stereo Problems Help!

I just bought a brand new Sony Xplod head unit for my 91' Rs convertible. The car originally had the tape player with the adjustible bass and treble. I put and in the new Sony and got nothin'. When you first turn it on, you can hear a little pop from the speakers on then nothing. Cds won't play either. I heard the cars with Bose system had an amp, but the high end stereos were not availible in 'verts. The guy at the stereo place said something about have to disable an amp if it had a certain stereo in it. Is this my problem, please, I need help quick!

Ok, heres an update. The new stereo is fine, works when just hooked up to some spare speakers. So I guess my car has one of those factory amps. So heres my new qusetion. Can I bypass the little POS or do I have to run new speaker wire? I don't even know were it is, under the dash?console? Can I just remove it?

C'mon guys, any ideas? I have all new speaker wire, the stereo is connected only to two hot leads and a ground. The stereo makes a little pop when it first comes on then nothing. Do Sonys not work with Pioneer speakers or what? I hooked up the old tape deck with no antenna and the speakers played static, but with the XPlod I get nothin'.

If the car was equipped with a factory bose stereo, you will have to run new speaker wire to all of the speakers. All of the speakers will have a little amp hooked up to them(one amp on each speaker) I dont know about bypassing the amps because there is power wires going to the amps from the stereo plus input wires for the speakers. My camaro had a factory bose in it, which I changed it for a pioneer and I ran new all speaker wires to each speaker. This might be the easiest thing to do to get sound for your speakers. Pioneer speakers will work for your stereo. Hope this helps you out.

Hey, same thing on my friends Le Baron that i put a 2 amp system in. His was Infinity powered with amps on each speaker, it was a friggin pain to figure out with wires were sound and which were power to the speakers. plus i ran new wire to the speakers just incase he wanted to upgrade later, and when i got it done, the speakers made really faint sound. Almost liek the volum was at 1 when it was cranked. So, went to the store with him, bought new speakers, hooked them up and it was perfect.

I have brand new Pioneer speakers. I've run new speaker wire to all of them. The Sony Xplod head unit works just fine when hooked up to some spare speakers I have lying around. When I turned the system on in the car, the back speakers make a short pop and then nothing. The only thing I can think of is that the magnets are touching something ( its a convertible, so those 6.5s are crammed in back their ) metal, would this screw something up? I am desperate for help since I now have a $425 bill and no tunes at all.

I'd get at one of the speakers and see if it has an amp attached to it. Then you'll know for sure what you're dealing with. Next run a set of test speaker wires from the HU to the speaker (nothing perment, just drap it across the seats) and see how it sounds. If it sounds OK then obviously you've determined that you need to run new wires. If it still sounds like crap then you've eliminated one source of the problem and can move on from there.

All of my speakers are new. None of them have amps. I've run all new speaker wire to the speakers, now the only wiring that is original to the car are the two hot leads and the ground to HU. I am beginning to think that the back speakers are the problem. They are Pioneer TS-A1765 oversized 6.5"s and the are a very tight squeeze in the back ( convertible ). I used the brackets that came with them since the last owner just screwed new speakers to the panel. They fit but the magnets and connectors are very close to a metal brace back their. I'm not sure but think the magnets might be rubbing the brace. Could my speakers be grounding or something? When I turn on my stereo the back speakers make a little popping sound and then nothing. Help!

First of all sony xplode heads are not peices of crap.

Also I am pretty sure they sell special harnesses for systems with the factory amplifiers, get one of those and you dont have to re wire the speakers.

I found out I don't have a factory amp, besides the Bose system had an amp for each speaker, all my speakers are new. So that is not the problem. When I did this swap all I did was add the Xplod HU and new back speakers ( replaced the fronts already ). I use the conversion harness so I wouldn' hack anything up. I'm almost certain the problem is with the back speakers. Please read my last post and let me know if that is the problem. Thanks.

OK, For some reason I don't think it is the back speakers and the magnets... Double check your wiring.. You know... sony wiring harness to the camaro one... Check to make sure the wires are going to the right wires(+on + and -on -).. also your not using an amp right... Do'nt worry about the remote wire until then.. Make sure the wire(on the harness) is Grounded... Also make sure the two wires in the back(to the speakers) are not touching each other....

Too bad your in another state or take a trip and I'd take a look...

The vert should have nothing to do with the sound system...

Another thing.. Try other speakers connected to the backs... Just substitue with those speakers you had laying around... If those work then you have found the issue...

Keep us updated...

I am 99% sure it has nothing to do with wiring. I first ran the speakers with the original wiring. When they didn't work, I rewired them all very cafefully. The only wires that are Camaro that run to the stereo are the hot wires and the ground. I have been rewiring for 3 days ( the stereo is now almost completely stand alone ) and have had the stereo in and out checking and rechecking the wiring about 8 times now! I will try removing the rear speakers from the panels and see if they work while just lying in the back seat.

Its FIXED! It was the speaker, the connectors were grounding. It works great now, so my car is now not only faster than the Muttstang 'vert down the street, it has a better stereo too!

While Sony does not meet my standards either, that is not the issue here. The deck works, so let's fix his problem before we pick apart his equipment choices.
