Stereo System Question, Please Help

I have 2 Sony Xplod 12's being pushed by a kenwood 1000w Amp. I had it hooked directly into the battery but after I added my interior neons, it seemed as though i was pulling to much power from the batter. (i.e. my battery would be dead) Should I add a spetate battery solely for the purpose of my neons and my system, and if so, how do i go about installing it and keeping the batery charged? Thanx

You should check that your amp and neon system are not remaining on when the car is off. If they are turning off, have your alternator/voltage regulator tested, and your battery too. If all of that is OK, then you have a low level drain on the battery. To find it, remove your negative battery terminal, and hook a digital VOM between your negative battery post and negative cable with the car off. If the meter shows anything more than a few milliamps draw, start pulling fuses one at a time until you find the circuit that is causing the drain.

Adding a battery does nothing more than put an extra load on your alternator, so I usually suggest upgrading to a heavy duty alternator instead. If you listen to your system with the car off a lot, I would also step up to a gel cell battery.
