After disassembling the interior of the rear of my car, I've discovered that 6x9s don't fit! I assumed the rear speaks were 6x9s, but found they were actually like 5 1/4". The 6x9s I now have don't fit back there because of a metal crossbeam.. I'm assuming this was welded in as extra support b/c it's a 'vert. Any suggestions or tricks?
Yeah, I figured they'd fit as well. I guess some of the extra support that was welded into the 'verts is eating up the space. My factory setup looks like a 5 1/4 attached to some sort of an adapter plate. Pretty screwy.

he is talking about 'verts....MUCH different speaker location then the hard and T-tops.......The guy rigged 6.5 in there for me....they were cheap and I went to replace them only to find 6x9s don't fit (Kappas from the '87)....oh welll will have to get some 6.5 kappas and put them in there.

6.5s are about your only option.. I have been down that road before. The only way to fit something larger is to build out your rear panel. Which I may do because I have no seats in the back and I dont have to worry about space for passangers. I like the sound of 6x9s and I am not interested in running a sub so much as getting a good quality sound in the car. I may end up putting a sub in the trunk. Have to look through the old posts on the board to see how many systems have been done in convertibles.

how about in the back of the two front seats facing the rear. since there is a seat cover zipper on the back or at least mine, why not try to rig them in there. i wouldnt think they would vibrate to much to notice. hey kinda like a massager though

i dont think that would sound too good, you probably wouldn't hear it too well, and the sound quality would be bad because there is nothing solid there to sound off of.
