Free Air Subwoofers?

Hey gang,

I currently have two 10" subwoofers mounted along with my cd changer on a deck over my truck. I have a 200 watt amp but as the subs are 10 years old and are falling apart they need replacing. I am very happy with my system and just want to replace the subs. Do I really need to find Free Air type subs, if not, what will work with this set-up?

If you insist on using a plate, then yes. Use free-air subs.

Now here's a suggestion. For the same price as 2 free air subs, you can buy 1 sub and a box. I guarantee it'll sound MUCH better and go at least as loud.

How would using a box affect my T-top storage? Plus I still want to mount my CD changer in the back.

You can get a box that will fit in the well in the rear deck. You will need a sub that requires a small sealed box, I strongly recommend the Alpine Type R subs. A 12 inch sub only requires .75cubic feet. And they are not really expensive. I used these subs for competition, like I said, I strongly recommend them. Their power handling is excellent. They will handle more power than they are rated at. I personally believe that they have better sound quality than most subs as well.

You can easily fit 2 of these subs in a box in the well. You will not be disappointed.
