Re: Your Top 5 Tunes

Rush - Red Barchetta

Its about a car thats been outlawed in the future. Get on a winding road out in the country on a day you can roll the windows down. Crank it UP!!!. That brings back great memories from 30 years ago.

Lyrics:

My uncle has a country place
That no one knows about.
He says it used to be a farm,
Before the Motor Law.
And on Sundays I elude the Eyes,
And hop the Turbine Freight
To far outside the Wire,
Where my white-haired uncle waits.

Jump to the ground
As the Turbo slows to cross the Borderline.
Run like the wind,
As excitement shivers up and down my spine.
Down in his barn,
My uncle preserved for me an old machine,
For fifty-odd years.
To keep it as new has been his dearest dream.

I strip away the old debris
That hides a shining car.
A brilliant red Barchetta
From a better, vanished time.
I fire up the willing engine,
Responding with a roar.
Tires spitting gravel,
I commit my weekly crime...
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsfreak.com/r/rush/re..._20119966.html ]
Wind-
In my hair-
Shifting and drifting-
Mechanical music-
Adrenalin surge...

Well-weathered leather,
Hot metal and oil,
The scented country air.
Sunlight on chrome,
The blur of the landscape,
Every nerve aware.

Suddenly ahead of me,
Across the mountainside,
A gleaming alloy air-car
Shoots towards me, two lanes wide.
I spin around with shrieking tires,
To run the deadly race,
Go screaming through the valley
As another joins the chase.

Drive like the wind,
Straining the limits of machine and man.
Laughing out loud
With fear and hope, I've got a desperate plan.
At the one-lane bridge
I leave the giants stranded at the riverside.
Race back to the farm, to dream with my uncle at the fireside

Re: Your Top 5 Tunes

Rush - Red Barchetta
Ram Jam - Black Betty
Black Sabbath - Iron Man
Ted Nugent - Stranglehold
Jimi Hendrix - Watchtower
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Simple Man
Led Zep - The Battle of Evermore
The Firm - Satisfaction Guaranteed
David Allen Coe - Nothing To Lose
Better Than Exra - A Lifetime
Creed - With Arms Wide Open
Bad Company - Simple Man

There are simply too many that belong in the top spot. It would take weeks to sort through my memories for those with meaning to me. I think the ones that have some kind of special meaning and connection belong there.

But the top one of all time : Creed - With Arms Wide Open

Now that is a song that i like that does not fall in the rap catagory, Creed-With Arms Wide Open . That's a memorable song that me and my wife loved when I was in the US Army.

Re: Your Top 5 Tunes

Driving fast or hitting the twisties hard-
1. Wanderlust- Every Time I Die
2. Running Down a Dream- Tom Petty
3. Bridges Burning- Foo Fighters
4. Jesus Christ Pose- Soundgarden
And East Bound and Down or any of the Eurobeat from Initial D... yeah it's cliche, but playing Jerry Reed in a Trans Am is just... right. And I swear I can carry a little more speed through the corners with Running in the 90's blasting.

For easy driving, Foster the People, Steve Miller Band or Fleetwood Mac. On top speed runs or drag racing, Rob Zombie, Sevendust and Disturbed are hard to beat. And just cruising around town or sliding around in the rain, Master P, Deadmau5, Eminem and Wu Tang Clan sound good. And every now and then, Karnivool or Tool are pretty sweet for just absent minded cruising. I'm not THAT ocd though, I listen to all of it pretty interchangeably... except the fast driving music. Nothing sucks more than listening to a song that just makes you want to put your foot into it, let the torque converter lock up and zip down a nice road when you're sitting in traffic behind some guy who's texting and has bumper stickers you disagree with and the SUV on your bumper is threatening to make your thirdgen flatter than it already is

Re: Your Top 5 Tunes

Fast is smooth and smooth is fast. That being said; something about hip-hop just losses me up, but there so many types of music don't limit yourself to one because of a desired image. You know your *** listens to Endless Love when no one is around.

The #1. The Notorious B.I.G - Juicy (and many others)
Eminem - Lose Yourself
Hatebreed - A call for Blood (among many others)
Wu-Tang Clan - Triumph
White Zombie - More Human Than Human

Honorable Mentions:
Kanye West- Can't tell me nothin (also works for weightlifting..trust me it works)
Metallica - Master of Puppets, Harvester of Sorrow, Creeping Death,.. mostly all Metallica songs
T.I. - Live your Life
T.I - Swagga like Us
Pantera - I'm Broken
Travis Tritt - Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde
Brantley Gilbert - Country Must be Country Wide
Waylon Jennings - Eastbound and Down

I've got an 80's thrash mix for work:

Anthrax
Believer
Deliverance
Exodus
Flotsom & Jetsom
Good Metallica
Megadeth
Early Slayer
Vengence Rising

Then I threw in some Austrian Death Machine, Blind Guardian, Rhasposdy, Some Dethklok, and a bunch of stuff with Ripper Owens in it to mix things up a bit.

WHAT!!!!! 2Pac- Last Ones Left? Damn. I'm surprised!!
I'll follow up with;
2Pac - Lil Homies
Hey IW-33, in the original "Lil Homies", at the very end, 2Pac disses LL Cool J. But in the "Until The End Of Time" album, Afeni (Pacs mom) decided to cut the song short so that the diss will not be audible.

Re: Your Top 5 Tunes

God I could barely put together a list. I looked at my libraries highest played items but they were all over the place Genre wise.

But thats based on playcount and not actually my favorite order. Though I love all of those tunes they are kind of an eclectic mix. I usually create smart playlists with ratings and other filters to bring out stuff I haven't heard in a while.

Why do I need smart playlists? Because I have 15,000+ songs in my iTunes library and I'm fairly picky about what I'll add in there. I dont' have it just to have it, I actually have to like it.

So here's a quick guess at what I could consider my Top five picking from the 25 most played songs. [Artist - Track name]
  1. E.S. Posthumus / Jay-z - Run This Town (think it was the NFL tune for a bit)
  2. Embassy - Gravity
  3. Hadouken! - Mecha Love
  4. Emjay & The Atari Babes - So Clear
  5. Skillet - Rebirthing

I could easily listen to Skillet all day long. Same for Hollywood Undead, Linking Park, and Nightwish.

I have 43 Days worth of music, every last song is MP3 Tagged, has Album Art, Rated, and has the correct Genre.

Smart Playlists are my friend.

Here's the top 5 from my Favorites not played in a year playlist.
  1. Buck Cherry - Crazy B!tch
  2. Nightwish - End of All Hope
  3. Rammstein - Eifersucht
  4. Metallica - Sanitarium
  5. Disturbed - Inside the Fire

Woo, you wouldn't catch me in public with most any of those songs. Embarrassingly inappropriate. (For me anyway)

Re: Your Top 5 Tunes

My '83 Firebird died Spring of '09, and has since been replaced by a 2004 GTO. That GTO drowned in Sandy and was replaced by another 2004 GTO. In the Firebird, I always played cassettes that I recorded off of vinyl. Nothing but, as you said, classic rock.
This newer car only plays CDs, so I have been forced to burn the same music onto those little discs.
Whether or not an Australian-made GTO is a GTO is up for debate, but that's another story.
At least the LS1 engine and 5-speed slushbox are made here.
I still play Roy Orbison, Bleach Boys, Stones, Doors, and lots of things that most people on this site have never heard of.

Every generation has its own taste in music. I have learned to accept that not everyone had my likes and dislikes.

BUT I WILL NOT GIVE UP ANALOG FOR SERIOUS HOME LISTENING

I appreciate all types of music. though its a persons choice of what they listen to, ALL music has gotten some sort of influence from something else, which may be expressed in the tune.

Well said man. I think it all depends on the region of the USA you live in. I mean come on. Do you think Los Angeles thrives on Country? What about in the corners of Texas, do they listen to 2Pac? I don't think so. So to say "if you listen to rap, you might as well sell your Thirdgen" is like saying to a Japanesse man to learn Chinesse because he looks Asian. Punch yourself JaredI12.

Re: Your Top 5 Tunes

I just watched one hour of the Grammys and got so fed up with the **** [yes, especially the rap] being played, that the T.V. is now shut off.
Have you heard the [old] saying? "You can't listen to a CD until you remove the [w]rapper?"

Wow, I forgot that this site bleeps-out curses.

5spd slushbox?

04-06 GTO's only came with a 4spd auto, or a 6spd manual. nothing else.

Re: Your Top 5 Tunes

Now can we all get back to the topic? Enough of the doo doo talking.
I've always been a West Coast rap fanatic. But today I played a mix of various music. Some noted are:

1: Red Hot Chili Peppers-Aeroplane
2: Bush - Machine Head
3: 2Pac - To Live and Die in LA
4: Smashing Pumpkins-1979
5: Dr. Dre - Nuthing But A G Thing
