6 1/2" (or 6 3/4") over 6x9's?
Should I make this switch? I was thinking of dumping my rear 6x9's for a 6 1/2" speaker in a homemade adapter plate. Isn't a round speaker better at reproducing sound than an oval one?
And what's the deal with these "new" 6 3/4" aftermarket speakers? Are the cones really larger? Or do their baskets just fit the larger factory cutout?
Thanks!

there are plenty of good sounding 6x9s out there, but in general, you have the ability to get higher quality stuff in 6.5". But... if you're looking at a 6x9 and a 6.5" coax from the same model lineup, you won't necessarily benefit from the 6.5". It's just that you can get some good 6.5" components that aren't available in the 6x9 size.
Another thing to consider is whether you're running subs or not. If you've got subs, bass output from your rear speakers is not an issue, so I'd go 6.5 all the way, but if you don't have subs, the extra bass output from the 6x9s can be a big benefit.

Your rear speakers are not that important, they are just there for fill. I like Firebretha's setup but if you're not running a worthy setup...your 6x9's will be just fine.
