speakers popping???

Hello everyone. I havent been on here in a long time. Ive got a question for any audio people. I installed a new ppi amp into my car 4x40 watts to run my 6x9's and my tube. I had a fosgate but it was old and it broke. So i installed this new ppi, new rca's, and all new speaker wires. Now when I move my shifter from park to drive or reverse and back my speakers make a popping sound. I have a b&m megashifter and I installed the relay so my torque converter lock up works. So if i remove the ground for my nuetral safety switch they dont pop but obviosly my car dont start either. I tried moving grounds around, different batteries, and everything I can think of. So if anyone can help please let me know. Sorry for such a long post but I wanted to tell you everything. Oh yeah it only happens when the car is running also.

Thank you,
Mike

Sooo, if the neutral saftey switch isn't hooked up, the car don't start, then how you know that the neutral saftey switch doesn't help and that ... oh geez ive gone crosseyed. HEHE

where are you running your powerwires? Power wires on one side and audio on the other. Then either something with the transmission interfering with the audio wires. I ran my power wire for one of my amps over the tail end of my transmission (I got lucky and no engine noise) Also, thinking maybe a draw from the reverse lights.
Im just throwing ideas at you. If they dont help I apoligize.

I had the same thing!!! A B&M Megashifter, and a popping noise from my speakers whenever I move across the neutral safety switch or the reverse lights switch.

Know what solved it? Moving the B&M relay AWAY from my RCA preamp cords. Stupid me had actually wire-tied the relay to the preamp cords... duh. All I had to do was move the relay a few inches away.

Oh- wait- you said your preamps are on the side of the car? Hm. Don't know if this solution will work, but maybe it'll give you an idea? My power wires run down the driver's side. My speaker wires run down the passenger side. My RCA cables run right down the center of the car- yep, under the carpet. Talk about a pain! My MECP friend still can't believe I had the patience for that!

This is a weird one, especially since the neutral safety switch is not a ground. Well, not completely. It actually gives 12V to the starter. So one of my questions is....Exactly what wire are you touching to metal to start the car?

IT IS a ground for your hatch release.

How is everything wired?

ok, I finally figure it out. well not entirely me but after about 3 trips to the audio shop we came to the conlclusion that it wasnt the ground at all, it was actually the power. I think the power for the radio and the power for the shifter somewhere along the line are the same so all i had to do was find a new power when the ignition was hot and wire that to the relay. now they are from 2 different power sources, the ground is back where it belongs, and no more popping. Im so glad i finally got this problem behind me but i figured id let everyone know in case thy ever ran into the same problem because it is a very rare one. Thanks for the help.
