Install question on deck

Ok i got my new radio pod and Im done with surgery today. It got to dark out to finish so I put the rest off until tommarow.

Now, what is the purpose of those air vents . I mean obiviously they funnel air, but are they needed? What if they were cut off, would this mabye heat up the head unit too much?

Reason I ask Is I cut off the factory bracket where the stock radio plugs into and a bit more. But I still am doubtfull if all the wires will fit back there.

I did a search a while back and there were some great pictures on the subject but they are gone now.

Basically im wondering if I can cut those air channels off and not hurt anything (besides the structural integrity of the thing).

Thanks

NAte

i myself will be doing something similar when i get a spare weekend. my plans are to cut out those channels to the vents and using some kinda of flexible heater ducting (like used for dryers) and allowing the vents to still be functional, while also being flexible. lemme know if you come up with any other info
