How do I fix stripped threads for the aircleaner stem?
The threads down in the center of my Q-Jet somehow got stripped and now the aircleaner stem won't tighten up in there. Do I tear down the carb and do a JB Weld/retap? Not sure where to start with this.

Damn man..how the hell did you strip those out! that must have taken some pretty serious effort
There might be enough meat in there to drill it to the next larger size stud, and tap it. I know you can with Holleys..would assume you can for your app too. If you cover the engine properly, removing the carb from the engine shouldn't be nessecary.

Yep, you can take your ergonomically designed, space age, computer controlled, 4 door, cup holding map lighted split double wishbone split fold down retractable cargo covered moon roof piece of transportation and keep it. Not dismounting the carb, should I take the air horn off and all that fun stuff to tap this thing?

Think I figured out what happened-I took the stem out, looked closely at the threads both for the wingnut and inside the carb. The lower half of the wingnut threads were all mangled and stripped, the upper half fine.
So, looking at the other end, someone cut off a section to drop the stem lower for the good threads, and wound up cutting it crooked and messed up the thread down there.
It was basically ripping threads out of the carb with each attempt to tighten it, so I re-turned it the best I could on a grinder and wire wheel (not fun) and cleaned out the hole & threads in the carb. It threads in there now, probably into what's left of the carb's threads. I used locktite when I put it back in, hoping it'll hold.
