old quadrajet
old quadrajet
have an old quadrajet from a junkyard that sat around for two years...
when i just start the car up in the morning and if i give it more gas then half throttle it will sputter and almost die until i left off the gas
i think the carb just needs a rebuild...but is there anything i can check?
im thinkin about buying an edelbrock performer carb part# 1405 because i dont really like the quad

Most heavy-throttle problems with the QJet are related to the secondaries, in my experience. They come into action from about 55* of throttle openeing on up to full throttle. The passages that feed fuel to them could have gotten plugged somehow (an insect building a nest in them is my personal favorite) or the secondary rods could have fallen off their hanger into the jet or they could just be assembled wrong/missing parts/damaged. SHouldn't be too had to figure this one out. Do the rebuild and keep your peepers peeled for wierd stuff.
