I have a 73 olds Omega,nova clone with a 350 rocket engine. On the engine is a Edelbrock RMP manifold, edelbrock 650 elecit. choke and dual exhaust 2 flowmasters. Its been shoting gas out of the carb. and will start on fire its happen 3 times on me. I changed the timeing chain and tuned the carb and fixed the choke but it still backfires out the carb. What is the trouble with it.

The last time my engine was backfiring like crazy was when all my plugs were completely covered black. It was running way to rich.

They said it was runing lean.

 

Well! You know how "they" are. Actually if gas is "shooting" out of the carb you may be way high on the float setting or have some crap in the inlet valve. Sounds dangerous.
