from rochester to edelbrock and...

S.O.B. way different, no more hessitation at w.o.t. smooth idle awesome acceleration BUT...
it has cut the mileage to 1/2 (50% less range)
i went from rochester M4MC (vacc sec) to the edelbrock (eldebrok) 1406 (mec sec. 600cfm elect choke).
there's no black smoke, no internal leak, fuel press is stock, new air filter, choke is ok and propperly set.
IS THIS NORMAL?
first time i'm using this kind'a carb and a little advice from the third gen brotherhood will be appreciated with all my heart. thanks to all.
Fernando. :hail:

Are you sure it's not because you've got your foot in it alot . I swapped a quadrajunk for a Carter on an old pickup I used to have, and I liked the throttle response so much that I couldn't keep my foot off the pedal!

I thought you were still running a computer controlled dist, and yeah that would do it. if you've already changed it to non-cc version, than nevermind.

now i need an adaptor to fit it to a spread bore stoch chevy 350 aluminium manifold.
any ideas guys?
by the way... there are no rods on the secondary jets...is that normal???
thanks again.

there aren't any rods on the secondaries, they're controlled by that air valve over the secondaries...

dear pablo and the monkey man.
i've just read the entire section on the basic theory and the tune-up of these carbs (edelbrock website).
now i got it and its done. there's no secondary rods and the sec jets were originally placed right, it was my ignorance on the matter that got it wrong, and more, the choke was not properly adjusted so i did some rigging, so, on test it worked ok but it quit shortly after, that was why i had all that much fuel consumption, i have to order a new electric choke so in the meantime i have it fully open.
really with all the mistakes i have made this carb was awesome compared to the rochester, now after a couple of openings and closings came to realize how simple it is, a true piece of art and now that is properly calibrated IT ROCKS.
thanks to all for your time.

I HAD a 750cfm Edelbrock on my 400. It was awesome as far as WOT power and mid range. The thing woudlnt idle for **** and it would almost ALWAYS stall if I stabbed it from a dead stop.

Went to a Holley 750 vac sec. The holley is GREAT around town. Great throtle response, idles pretty damn good, and no hesitation or stall from a stop. BUT, WOT seems A LOT slower

So if your Edelbrock idles and doesnt stumble, KEEP IT !!! lol

the only time mine stumbles is if i just started it and it hasnt fully warmed up yet. but it works real good when its warmed up. i stomped it from a dead stop, and left about a 30 foot patcg of rubber, from both tires and i dont even have a posi.
