car dies when you put it in gear help please

hi everybody i have a problem i know this is an f-body message board but im helping my friend try to fix up his ford truck he has a ford ranger with an engine out of a ford falcon it has an edelbrock carb on it but im not sure what kind it is but the problem is he can start it but once he puts it in gear the thing dies can anybody help me out im getting pretty stumped on this one thatnks to everyone in advance

He probably has a vaccum leak. Also, if it has a large cam, the convertor may be too tight.

Is there any way you could have crossed spark plugs? I wired two cylinders wrong once and it would nearly stall if I gave it just a little gas... I would imagine if this is the problem that you have wired at least 4 cylinders wrong (from dist to cylinder) of course it can only be 2, 4, 6 or 8 cylinders miswired... I would doubt very much so that there is a vacuum leak causing this, but it is always good to check the little things first...

Usually it indicates a lean condition of some kind(vacuum leak for example. Fatten up the idle mixture and check the idle speed

350 with stealth intake, holley carb, 470 lift cam. 700r4 with .5 boost valve, vette servo, tci lock-up kit, B&M megashifter. Richmond 3.73 gears, powertrax locker, timkin bearings, synthetic lube. Custom 3 inch single into 2 2.5 pipes. 1 1/2 drop springs, 1 5/16 solid front sway bar, 1 inch rear bar, custom subframe connectors, custom LCA relocation brackets. Kobel ground FX, current red metallic paint. Lots of other stuff...

choke the carb slightly with your hand (when warm), if the idle increases you have a vacuum leak.
to easy to check not to
