The three-wire connector goes to the cap. The pickup gets power and operates the coil through that harness.
The distributor needs ignition-switched power to the "Bat" terminal at the cap, and the coil wire to the "Tach" terminal right beside it. Pretty simple, really.
The wire colors you're asking about are the igniton module wires in the base of the distributor. Look at what it's got, make the selection based on that.

The coil p/n's you quote are HEI in-cap units. When you install one of them into the cap, terminals stick down so that the 3-wire connector from the distributor base and the ignition and tach wires come in from the bottom of the part of the cap that sticks out (have you gotten a cap yet?).
Hmmm, I'm assuming too much. Since HEI has been around since 1974, I assume everybody's seen one. Sorry. Those markings are on the coil cover, or the coil if you get one of those Accel units.

between your advide and me going over to a friends house to check out his car i think i have it figured out. i dont have the coil yet but i do have the distributor and cap. i need to get a coil and put the the 3 wire connetor into the coil. then right where i plug the 3 wire connector into i need to plug two wires into the coil i an assuming the red and white wires. the red is a power wire and the white or yellow goes to the tach? am i right?
thanks

They'll be the same wires currently used for power and tach. I haven't have much exposure to TBI, but what you said sounds right.
