Fuel filter placement

Is it ok to place the fuel filter after the fuel pump if it is mechanical?
Thanks,
Mike

L69 5.0 H.O balanced crane compucam 2050,hyperutectic pistons, bigger intake valves weiand stealth intake holley avenger 670, 1.6 roller rocker arms, stocked gas tank, mechanical fuel pump.
I plan on using about 100 hp nitrous kit later on.
I plan on putting in a 383 later on and don't want to have to mess with the fuel system when I do it, so I want to get it right the first time.
I want it to be streetable but it will be raced on road course and some 1/4 mile strips.

Thats where edelbrock reccomends putting a filter and most filters for other carbs are built into the carb. Personally I put my filters behind the fuel pump so they do not reduce fuel pressure. "Yea I know it wont reduce much if anything by putting it infront my court my rules "
