Wierd Idle Problems Please help

When i start my firebird in the morning (when its cold) it'll idle fine for a second. Once i drive it, or give it a little gas, the idle will go way up (1500-1800 rpms) and stay there for a moment and it will smoke a little as well. The smoke is definately unburned fuel, not burning oil. Is my choke messed up? I tend to think so because this doesn't happen later in the day when the engine isn't cold. When the engine is warmed up the fuel smoke goes away and the idle goes back down to around 900-1200 rpms the rest of the time, which is still high. What could be causing this high idle?

How i do at the stop light:

ricers: 3-1
rustangs: 1-too many

Sounds like the choke. You might check all the linkage to see if somthing is binding. Its possible that when you start the car the choke isnt set and when you actualy put it in gear and step on the gas the choke is setting itself because he engine is still a bit cold.
