Help me prepare for winter
Help me prepare for winter
I have an 83 Trans Am with a stock Rochester Q-Jet. I am a bit concerned that this car will be very difficult to start when its really cold in the winter. Its frequently below 0 here on those lovely Michigan mornings. Is there anything I can do to the carb to make it easier to start when cold? Thanks in advance.

Not exactly a carb issue, but running 5 weight oil will help it turn over better when it's below zero.

88 miles an hour? But Doc, the speedometer stops at 85!!!
Come to the Vicksburg Old Car Show (in Michigan) next year, and hold it up for all the Thirdgen owners out there.
e-mail for directions, dates, etc.

It's all about the choke. It richens up the mix when it's cold. Make sure it's working properly. You may have to adjust it, but you won't know until it's cold out. I've seen carbs work just fine at -20. What really helps is a minimum 2-3 minute warm up. 5-10 minutes is better when it's really cold out.
