I need help my car won't start

I know it's not a thirdgen, but maybe you guys can help. My other car is an 84 Oldsmobile Cutlas Supreme. It is currently running a Rochester DualJet. okay, I went and rebuilt the carb yesterday, and other then finding oil in the carb everything was fine. So I put everything together last night and went to start the car and now it won't start, I set the floats right, and evrything went back together right. The only thing i didn't connect was the stock base plate gasket under the carb. It was burnt so i did use it,could this be my problem bcause i think the gaket has some sort of sensor in it. It has a electrical connector on the end of it. would not putting this back not make my car start??

Please Help ASAP

Thanks,
Robert

The gasket contains a heater grid, which is supposed to warm the air/fuel going into the engine when the engine is cold so the starting mixture doesn't have to be so rich. It's probably burnt out and now missing the grid. How much good it really does is open to debate, but that's why it was put there.

Are you saying you don't have any gasket between the carb and manifold now? If so, that could definately keep it from starting.

Other things to check are: verifying you've got fuel in the carb by looking down the carb and pumping the throttle, looking for a spray of gas into the throats; and checking the choke for proper operation - if it isn't closing, the mixture could be too lean for it to fire up.
