Non thirdgen carb question

What are the effects of a non-hooked up vacuum advance? I looked yesterday at my chevelle.. and sure enough the vacuum advance wasnt hooked up. It was just sitting there with nothing on it. Should i connect it back up? Where are the usual connect points on the carb for this? I have an edelbrock performer carb... i noticed there are a lot of plugged spots on the carb... thanks for any help.

You'll get lousy mileage and plugs will tend to load up much quicker with combustion contaminants. Also, part throttle will seem a bit sluggish without it.

There's an article on this website that talks about dialing your distributor's advance curve (mechainical and vacuum) if you want to have a look at it.

As for which port to plug into some will tell you a full-vacuum port, others will say a "ported" vacuum port that only supplies vacuum adove idle speeds. I prefer using a ported vacuum source. Test for this by uncapping each vacuum port while idling the engine. A full vauum port will have vacuum present even at idle. A ported one will have no vacuum at idle but the vacuum will rapidly increase as you open the throttle and rev up the enging.
