At idle? Probably because the fuel in the bowl is getting hot, making your mixture richer.

The air is being heated considerably by the time it makes it into the cylinders. Hotter air is less dense. The engine bay of a 3rd gen is cramped and everything under the hood gets pretty hot- intake ducting, air cleaner housing, intake manfiold, etc. That's the main reason many people runa colder thermostat in their engines.

If you're talking about a BIG drop off in power, then somethings out of whack. A hot engine should not lose enough power that you really feel much difference just driving it around.

Mine is the same way, its noticably stronger when its about 160 or less. I may be using TBI but the hot air principal still applies. I've also noticed that while at this temp my oil pressure is higher, which for density reasons makes sense.

My car runs like a probed ape in the fall and spring mornings.... *** given nitrous is what it is. My car runs awesome at 120 degrees. If I was an idiot, I would race it on winter mornings...surely you'd get even more power.

Try leaning out the carburetor, your car should run it's best when it's fully warmed up... the intake has nothing to do with how well it works cold as opposed to hot... it was designed to run best when the metals inside have fully warmed up and fit the seals and gaskets the best... My car runs smooth as silk as soon as it warms up...
