What carb's offer better reliability than the holley's?

I've had nothing but problems with these holley carb's. At first, a mechanic and the owner's of the speedshop couldn't get my first THREE holley 650 double pumper's (#4777) to maintain proper fuel lvl's in the bowls, my 4th one was fine at first, but Im always' worried about going anywhere more than 20 min away cause my carb still seems to act up and cause me to coast to a parking lot, or side of the road, and screw around with it so it will start back up again. So, Im figuring screw the holley's and the performance they give, and getting a carb that's reliable.

What's out there that can still make a mid 13sec car perform, and give me some piece of mind that my car will make a trip to the track (that's an hour away) and back home again?

After getting stuck today with my new engine and car for an hour, I'm completely sure that I've had enough of the holley's BS. My car run's mid 13's, why the hell should I have to treat it as a drag car that isn't a daily driver?

Please give me some suggestions, I'll sacrifice performance as long as the car will run well.

Thanks,

Scott

I also have another post about the floats and what happened today, I've still gotta get that pos working till I can afford another carb.

You got DIRT, S**T or something in the gas tank. Gona have to pull it and clean it out. Power flush the fuel lines and pump.
REPLACE the fuel filter, NEEDLE and SEATS
and Powervalve. What pump are you running?
The holley "blue" electric pump will give you nothing but trouble. (pressure creep thru
the regulator at idle) It wasn't designed for street use. I'd get a hi flow Mechanical 6 to 9 psi pump . (Edelbrock, Holley, Barry Grant.) It has more than enough flow and just enough pressure for your motor.

Holley carbs are reliable. Most of the problems people have will holleys turn out to be lack of tuning.

I know both og the Holley's I have/had work great. The first was bran new, the second, that I am using now was used. I would agree on the lack of tuning. If you think about it, there are about a million different combos to tinker with. Pump cams, squirters, primary-secondary jetting, power valves, acc.pumps, and if you want to get creative, you could adjust the air bleeds. On some Demon carbs you can change out the boosters too. Holley is known for performance, but the price is tuning to your set up.

How about the factory cc q-jet?

They can support way more car than you've got.

Demon carbs all the way. A good 650 speed demon will tune the same way a Holley does, but run much better. You can get em at Summit for a good price.
